DORA metrics, meet “DORA Plus.” Uplevel offers standard operational metrics plus additional context. Our approach turns lagging indicators of engineering efficiency into leading signals so you can take proactive action.
“We have a lot of goals as an organization: increasing profit margins, delivering more business value, improving products within our platform... Engineering is a creative job, but that means we don’t have repetitive instructions. We have to sharpen our own tool kit…and we need data and telemetry to do that.”
Deployment Frequency, Lead Time for Changes, Change Failure Rate, and Mean Time to Restore
Find the hidden factors and risks behind engineering friction, such as complex PRs, PRs without reviews, and low dev availability
Create organizational alignment across your business by defining what good looks like
TL;DR: Yes. Uplevel supports the four core DORA metrics, as well as many of the supporting metrics that are published as key leading indicators through the latest DORA reports.
Longer answer: As the four core metrics are lagging indicators, we believe DORA is not the best framework on its own for improving engineering effectiveness. Uplevel's product adds additional context and leading indicators so that teams can make changes without waiting for DORA to reflect them. Our proprietary framework in the Uplevel Method incorporates some of the DORA metrics, but it also draws from our own experience and from some other frameworks that are more effective in helping engineering leaders manage organizational change.
At Uplevel, we look at (and measure) cycle time in three different ways:
Lead Time for Changes (how long does it take to get code from PR to deployment?)
PR cycle time (how are we collaborating to get code written and through to production?)
Epic cycle time (what is our planning flow and where are things getting stuck at a higher level?)
Depending on your team’s preferred configuration, Uplevel does offer some view options (e.g., viewing cycle time by Jira start vs. first commit) to align our data to your way of working.
